Bolster Your Resume

When it comes to resumes less is more.  Your focus should be: to be concise and to be poignant.

Your resume should be a teaser for others to want to know more about you and should not overwhelm people. Resumes should include a max of 4-5 bullets for each position and your overall tenure at the company should be included at the top. If you can say something with fewer words, do so. For example, change "Responsible for reconciling" to "Reconciled".

Your resume should include your best accomplishments and only value-added bullet points (ex: Streamlined,  Reduced, Improved). Your resume should not read like a job description (Work with, Responsible for, Liaise with, etc.).  Any time you can quantify results, this will bolster your resume.

  • Did you streamline a process or add direct value?

  • If so, how much time did it save?

  • What was the impact?

  • What did YOU specifically do to achieve the outcome?

For each bullet point or item you put on your resume, ask yourself:

  • Does it really matter?

  • Would a hiring manager really care about this?

  • Is this an accomplishment or anything of significant value?

  • Does it really make me stand out?

  • Is this a strong selling point relevant to the job your are applying for?

Keep these set of questions in mind as you review your existing resume, and you will walk away with a new perspective to your body of work. For one on one career coaching, or questions, contact me directly Jen@caliberrecruiting.com
